This image was captured on Boracay in the Philippines during my first influencer trip. At the time, I was working for an action camera company as a Creative Director - it was the dream role for a creator but, managerial stagnation left me grounded in San Diego for nearly two months.
My contract was two-weeks in office editing , two-weeks on the road creating. My managers did not understand how I was growing the company so quickly so, instead of just trusting my judgement, they made me lay out all the details while the company began to crumble.
After detailing every aspect of my involvement in the company's growth, I was approached with this influencer trip. I pitched the idea to my managers over the phone and, even after proving my 300 percent growth in the company, they still didn't trust my judgement, and denied my request – so I quit the following day.
I had the dream job as a creator but, in the face of poor management and outdated marketing strategies, I trusted myself, pushed forward and, even in the face of losing everything, it changed my life for ever.
I spent the following year working with influencers, seeing places I never would have seen, meeting celebrities I had looked up to for years, lavishly living a life of wanderlust because I trusted myself to make it work.
We are often faced with difficult decisions - and most of them are justified by the idea of money - but, without action, there can be no favorable resolution.
